Hi, I’m Sarah

I’m a mother, writer, and artist.

I make the best breakfast potatoes, have a slight library book addiction, an obsession with my kid’s body temperature and hydration levels, and a deep love of parenthesis (see below)…love them. All. Day. Long.

I like to write essays. And my sincere hope is that you will read them and that they will make you unexpectedly and wildly spit the drink, you just took a sip of, on the face of someone you’re sitting across from, pee your pants, or cry - yes, sometimes I’ll admit I do want to make people cry. I’m not a jerk but I often cry when I look at my kids (they’re magical) and I don’t like to cry alone - so I try and bring people along for the ride.

I am highly versed (lived it) in the languages of 12-step (hello friends), trauma (CPTSD, anxiety, depression anyone?), ADHD (hey, that’s me!), spiritual abuse (that’s a funny story actually), creative blocks (aka shame), and all the myriads of ways we get stuck (sometimes for years) and avoid looking at the big true stuff in our lives.

I did warn you about the parenthesis

A few years ago that meant blowing up our life and traveling in our RV all around the country with our two kids, grumpy cat, and small white dog.

We saw a lot of beautiful places and life got really simple for a while. You’ll see photos from those days here on my Substack.

I live in Minnesota now where I teach Artist Way workshops, and try to get my kids to put on sweaters (for Pete’s sake), find time to write, and attempt to make food that doesn’t make my five-year-old burst into tears.

Whatever you’re navigating, Welcome! You’re in good company and I’m glad you’re here!

I hope you laugh and find something true.

But what is this Finding What’s True thing anyway?

  • Essays that make you chuckle or sob and feel like you’ve been hugged. It feels that way because I did actually just send you a story hug.

  • Reports on imperfection shared endeavors from the trenches of boldly trying new things, even when you don’t know what you’re doing, and changing big and small parts of your life.

  • Love list — List of things to love…mostly food and music…because let’s be serious those are the best things to love.
